The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has announced three open seats on its Fertilizer Inspection Advisory Board, which plays a vital role in maintaining the safety and integrity of fertilizing materials used across the state.
What’s at stake? The board advises CDFA’s secretary on the Fertilizing Materials Inspection Program (FMIP), a statewide initiative responsible for ensuring that fertilizers sold in California are safe, effective, and accurately labeled. Inspectors under FMIP conduct regular sampling, respond to complaints, and enforce compliance with manufacturing and distribution laws.
Who can apply? Two positions are available for industry representatives holding a valid fertilizing materials license or representing a licensed firm, and one is open to a public member with no industry affiliation. While the board roles are unpaid, members are eligible for travel reimbursement under California’s guidelines.
As California continues to lead in agricultural innovation and environmental standards, the role of this board is critical in ensuring that fertilizing materials contribute to sustainable and responsible farming.
