The Jewish community in Los Angeles is marking Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) this May with a series of cultural events celebrating its rich history and ongoing contributions to the city’s cultural life.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles (JFEDLA) launched the month’s programming with “Welcome to the Dream Factory,” a collaboration with MUSE/IQUE that highlighted the impact of Jewish artists on the entertainment industry.
On Friday, City Hall will host a special program titled “From The Wizard of Oz to Wicked: Jewish Composers Who Shaped Hollywood,” celebrating the enduring influence of Jewish composers on American film and theater.
JFEDLA, which has served the Los Angeles community for over a century, continues to support artist collectives, educational initiatives, concerts, and media projects.
At the MUSE/IQUE event, attendees viewed historical panels tracing the federation’s decades-long partnerships within the entertainment sector and the broader community.
These panels are available for public viewing at JewishLA.org/History.
“Our heritage is built on both memory and vision,” said Rabbi Noah of JFEDLA. “We are not strangers here—we are builders. Every time someone volunteers, advocates, or helps a neighbor, they carry our story forward.”
Through storytelling, music, and community engagement, JAHM in Los Angeles affirms a legacy of perseverance, creativity, and shared identity—celebrating not only the past but the vibrant present and future of Jewish life.
