A Salvadoran comedy film is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 2, bringing a Latin American twist to the big screen. ‘La Balada de Hortensia‘, starring Salvadoran comedian Julio Yúdice, will premiere at Harkins Theatres and AMC Theatres across selected cities in the United States.
The film follows the story of a narcissistic comedian who wakes up in the body of the opposite sex after a car accident, triggering a humorous and heartfelt journey of self-discovery. Yúdice, known for his character ‘La Tenchis‘, leads the cast alongside Cuban actor Francisco Gattorno, and Spanish actress Helena Haro.
Directed by Arturo Menéndez, a filmmaker from El Salvador, the production represents a growing wave of Central American cinema reaching international audiences. The film blends comedy with social commentary and aims to highlight Salvadoran talent on a global stage.
